Review from Pulse (May 1998) -
"...UJM is taking top honors. The first song, 'Rock Stars + Rocket Scientists' is
a strange story about a freaky guy who claims to have been "sucked into a
government conspiracy." Throughout the album, lead singer/guitarist Stacy Aldrich's
delivery is intense, from paranoid rantings to full-on shrieking.
UJM's funky, off-kilter rhythms, edgy guitar work and disorientating time
changes weave a weird spell. The band seems largely influenced by
Jesus Lizard, Pavement and Built to Spill, but they don't sound like a mere
ripoff. There's just way too much imagination at work here...."
Review from "Speck" Fanzine -
"This is it kids, the next big thing. With reported wild and lively live
shows and two very strong albums behind them UJM deserve to be huge. They
can conjure up images of early grunge and stay current and creative as
well. This new album sounds more mature than the last release - "Flapjack"
- and they've been touring with the like of Jayhawks, Mercury Rule and
Truck Stop Love, and have been setting the Minnesota scene on fire. My fave
seems to be Upchuck at the moment but I guess that's because it's crazy and
disjointed like me."
